CK's birthday fell on Saturday (December 19th) and we hatched a plan to spend the day together, relax a little, and open presents following some cake. So his birthday started out with donuts from our favorite place in Grapevine. After hanging out at home, the four of us headed to Ft Worth to eat at one of our newly-discovered favorites - Reata, which is this great restaurant that captures "authentic Texas cooking" so is therefore a mixture of Mexican, New Mexican, and American cooking. Whatever it is technically, it's outstanding! We decided to walk around to burn off a little lunch and ended up visiting a few shops and even had another visit to Santa (see next post).
After our visit, we headed back home so Sofia could nap and we could relax a little bit (and get hungry for birthday cake)! After some snacks, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Papa while bringing out his red velvet cake. Sofia helped him blow out his candles, of course, and quickly ate one of the chocolate airplanes from the cake. Then it was on to presents! Sofia got her Papa a stove-top popcorn maker, popcorn bowl and popcorn cookbook - I'm sure they'll get a lot of use out of all three!
Enjoying Papa's birthday donuts. She loves to eat off the sprinkles and frosting, then move on to another donut.
After an outstanding lunch at Reata!
Happy Birthday, CK/Papa!
Helping Papa blow out his candles and make a wish.
Presents!
Yet another use for the new popcorn bowl!
Sofia tries it on.
