Once in Lamy, there wasn't a whole lot to see or do. We learned that the actual rail line never went through Santa Fe (despite the railway's name), due to the mountains. Therefore, the tracks went through Lamy and a spur was built to Santa Fe. However, Santa Fe has flourished while Lamy has turned into a tiny stop on the rail line (an Amtrak train to Chicago stopped while we were there). Aside from an old saloon that required a donation to visit and a cool old train car that has been converted into a nice diner/restaurant, there is basically nothing but a spattering of houses in the distance. The chef from the train car restaurant set up a buffet at Lamy Station for the train passengers, which turned out to be a delicious BBQ pork sandwich with watermelon bbq sauce (yes, sounds weird, but it was divine!). After lunch and a short walk, we all loaded up and headed back to Santa Fe.
On the trip home Sofia sang two songs over and over: "Tug, tug, Wooo, Wooo, Off we go...." which is from one of the songs we listen to in the car, and "The people on the train go clickety clack, clickety clack...." obviously a spin off the Wheels on the Bus song.
