Hiking

On Tuesday morning we drove about 20 minutes outside of Santa Fe to a trailhead that was suggested to us by Aunt and Uncle's friend, Mike. We wanted to hike near a stream and have a good amount of shade during our hike so he suggested this location. It really turned out to be perfect and we enjoyed a nice hike for a few hours.

It was Olivia's first time in the backpack and she took to it immediately. I think she ended up sleeping on-and-off for most of the walk and when she was awake she was perfectly content. Sofia talked nearly the entire hike and pretended she was either a unicorn or a pegasus throughout the morning. Sofia mainly stuck with Aunt Shirl and I, although she'd run ahead and walk with Uncle Steve and CK at times too. She also collected a few good rocks which we ended up bringing back to Texas by accident.

At one point we took a break next to the stream and Sofia took her shoes off and waded into the cool water. I think it was a little cooler than she expected. On our way back after our decision to turn around, we met a horse and rider coming the other way! The horse was named Bandit and Bandit's owner was incredibly generous with his time to teach Sofia all about Bandit and took her for a short walk up the trail. She was in heaven and I think it was the highlight of her trip to Santa Fe!

After we said goodbye to Bandit, we continued on to our cars and headed back to our respective casitas. We actually ended up eating at Bumble Bee, one of my favorite little "fast food" Mexican restaurants. It tasted even better after a long, hot hike. Then, we went to another little place for milkshakes which were divine! It was a good end to a fun, and tiring, day!
