Sofia's Piano Recital

This afternoon Sofia had her very first piano recital! She played "The Ash Grove" which she'd practiced so many times over the past few weeks that she could probably do it in her sleep. Actually the Tuesday evening lesson before the recital, James her piano teacher told her she had to slow down since she tended to rush through it. She was ready and confident about her song and excited for the recital. The recital was held at the house of one of Sofia's classmates, Yulia, who is also a student of James'. Several of Sofia's classmates are also James' students and he organized a group of 10 of his students (two of them are parents) to participate in a recital. Yulia's parents offered to host the recital and have a great room in which everyone could watch and enjoy the music. Wanting to keep it fun and informal, Yulia's parents told everyone to bring their swimsuits so the kids could swim after the recital.

After Meeting, we had lunch and returned to the house for a little time to relax before the recital. We headed over to Yulia's house, which is about 1 mile away, and Sofia was ready to go. She was scheduled to be the first piano player after the two guitar players. When it was her turn she did an awesome job! She played so well and looked completely comfortable and relaxed. After everyone finished, she said she was really nervous before she started and even after she started playing she felt pretty nervous. It certainly didn't show at all. She did such a great job!

We all socialized for a while and enjoyed some food that several people brought with them. The girls changed into their swimsuits and everyone was in the pool having a great time. James' wife and his three little kids were at the recital and I had the best time talking with her while her little ones swam with Olivia on the steps. Olivia loves the water but thankfully knows her limitations, so she sticks close to the stairs and swims where she can immediately put her feet down and stand up. She's very close to swimming totally on her own. So, I sat on the lounge chair and talked with James' wife and Yulia's mom, Catalina. Sofia and Shivani played with Yulia and her big brother, Gabe and they had some sort of battle over the little rubber boat. Everyone had a great time and it was such a successful recital!
