Mother's Day 2013

What a fantastic Mother's Day Weekend! Not just a day, but a whole fun weekend! I announced on Friday that all I really wanted for Mother's Day was not to wipe anyone's behind, particularly the baby's for the whole weekend. CK agreed, although he's really great about changing diapers as it is when he's home.

Sofia had a soccer game on Saturday morning at 9am, so CK stayed home with Olivia, got her ready and drove to DFW to pick up one of my favorite people: CK's long-time friend Forrest from DC. CK spent a few days in DC for work a few weeks ago and he and Forrest planned a weekend visit. Forrest was only available on Mother's Day weekend and we figured if he didn't visit then, he might not be available for a very long time. So, he came to visit us and it was such a treat to spend a few days with him.

After Sofia's soccer game, we met at the house and tried to decide what to do for lunch and the rest of our day. Finally, we decided to drive to Ft. Worth and eat at The Original Mexican Eats Cafe, which CK and I had never even heard of before but Forrest said was good, solid Mexican food. It was delicious and we sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed a great meal in the perfect weather. After lunch, we drove around Ft. Worth and ended up at Buon Giorno Coffee which happens to be my favorite. We played a few games of Candyland while we enjoyed our coffees (chocolate milks for the girls). We drove home and relaxed outside while listening to Forrest's many travel stories and life in DC. We enjoyed some BBQ and it almost felt like old times back in DC together.

On Sunday I woke up and made my way out to the kitchen where CK was in the middle of making pancakes, but I couldn't find CK. He was in Olivia's room giving her a bath since she'd had a little bit of a diaper issue in the night. Unfortunately, she had a little diaper issue all day. After getting Olivia clean and dressed, he finished making pancakes and we ate them all up. Yum! After Meeting, we headed to Lavendou, the great little French bistro in Dallas that we went to last year. This year it was just as good (the same menu too). We each enjoyed our meals and then ordered four different desserts so we could share all of them. It was really fun and another outstanding meal! We left with very full bellies and headed home where we watched Sofia perform "A Day in The Life" which was her reenactment of a typical day at school. I actually learned quite a lot since she doesn't generally tell me much of anything about her day. The girls changed into their swimsuits and jumped in the still-too-cold-for-me water. Forrest tried to teach Sofia how to perfect her dive, and she actually got a lot better with just a bit of his instruction.

I also opened my gifts from CK and the girls and they spoiled me yet again this year! Not only did they give me a dozen beautiful red roses, but they also picked out a beautiful beaded skirt and orange top that goes with it that is really cute and very stylish. Sofia apparently picked out my other gift - a wonderfully smooth polkadot pj top and bottom! Forrest wrote me a very thoughtful card and gave each of the girls a Target gift card. Such great gifts that will be well used! We headed out before Forrest needed to be at the airport and ate pizza at Central Market while the girls played. Before we knew it, we were heading to the airport and saying goodbye. It was such a treat to have Forrest for the weekend and such a special Mother's Day weekend!
