Happy Birthday, Papa!!

Today was Papa's birthday and we had fun celebrating with him on his big day. I decided to keep Sofia out of school so we could meet CK downtown for lunch. I told her the plan yesterday so she announced to her teacher that she wasn't going to be in school the next day because it "was her Papa's birthday" to which her teacher said "Are you sure? Well, we'll see if that's true." Ha. Texas is so strict with attendance and we already have three unexcused absences but it's only her Papa's birthday once a year.

As Sofia and Olivia hung out in their pjs and played, I made CK's requested cake: red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I used a new recipe that called for a touch of apple cider vinegar which I thought sounded pretty interesting. I made the small 5" size cake since we'd be leaving in a few days. I then cut the two cakes in half so it became a three layer cake (I didn't add the 4th layer since it would be too tall). Once cool, I frosted it before we got ready for our drive to meet Papa.

We drove to Dallas and made our way up to CK's office. Sofia made him a Happy Birthday card with a drawing and was so excited to give it to him, so she gave it to him there. We hung out and said "hello" to some of his colleagues before we headed to lunch at The Porch. CK had recently visited The Porch and was really excited to go back. It was such a great place and the food was outstanding! I loved it and wish we lived closer so we could go often.

We dropped CK off at his office and headed home to prepare for his birthday dinner and pick up balloons. Of course, once we were home Sofia and Olivia were completely preoccupied with the balloons. Sofia loved blowing up a balloon and then letting it go to watch it fly across the room. Once CK got home we sat down to a filet mignon, baked potato and asparagus dinner! Yum! Then, he and Sofia headed off to Meeting while I put Olivia to sleep. CK led the Meeting and apparently Sofia said "Today was Papa's birthday all day and then he got to lead the Meeting. It's almost too much!" Ha. After they returned, the three of us sang Happy Birthday before eating cake and ice cream and then CK opened his presents! Happy Birthday to a great Papa and husband!

Happy Birthday, Papa!

Sofia also brought this book to read to him....or the other way around.
