Yesterday morning, Sofia and I loaded up the car with the stroller, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, snacks, cameras, water and just about everything else and headed to the Ft Worth Zoo. It is FINALLY getting into the 60s and promised to be a very pleasant day, so we decided to spend the day walking around looking at animals rather than going to the gym, which is our Friday norm. We were actually supposed to meet up with a mom's group, but we were a bit late (what's new) and I missed them. I originally thought that we'd 'run into them' since there were eight moms with strollers scheduled to be there, but I quickly realized that wasn't going to happen when I saw the lines of buses in the parking lot. So, we spent the day enjoying the animals together!
It was a little windy at first, so I bought a long sleeve shirt and used it as a blanket for Sofia's legs since she wore a skirt without leggings (we were feeling daring in that 64 degree weather, I guess)! The first animals she wanted to see were the hippopotamuses since lately she's been playing with the wood hippopotamus that we bought on our honeymoon (I have it on a shelf in her room and she asks for it by saying "Can I want the hippopotamus?" and says the word perfectly!). So, we headed toward the hippos, fed the fish along the way and saw the giraffes and elephants. I think the hippos were a bit of a disappointment because they were nearly entirely submerged in the water and only stuck their nostrils up to take in new air.
From there, we walked up to the town and ate our lunch. Along the way we saw most of the animals, including kangaroos, lions, tigers, zibras, lesser kudu, owls, sharks, etc. After our lunch, we went on the merry-go-round and then took the train back to the bottom of the zoo. It was a fun day and Sofia was asleep in her car seat about five minutes after I strapped her in!
All set to explore the zoo in her chariot!
Looking at the fish and ducks with the "big kids" from one of the many school groups
Watching a lazy tiger
Feeding the parakeets
She only tried to pet one once, otherwise, she was content to watch them eat seed off her stick
Playing on the kangaroo statue
