Spring Break, Day 1: At Grandma and Grandpa's

Yesterday we headed out of town to start our Spring Break! We've had a very cold and wet winter that seems to not want to go away, so we were more than ready to get out of Colleyville for warmer weather. We couldn't wait for the Bahamas. Sofia had science and math tests, but thankfully those are her first two periods, so we told her to take her tests and then we'd pick her up and head to the airport. While she was at school, I walked Buddy and finished packing. We loaded up our car and dropped Buddy with Mitzi and Harley, and hoped he would have fun staying with them while we were out of town. He did not look impressed as I said goodbye and headed out the door. We picked up Sofia from school and drove to the Arlington Airport. We loaded up the Baron and flew, uneventfully, to Nanchez, Mississippi to have a bathroom break and fuel up for our final leg to CK's folks' place. Before leaving the house, we'd made ham and cheese sandwiches and packed up all our left over veggies and oranges for our lunch, which we ate shortly after take-off. Both girls also napped in the second half of the flight.

We landed at the farm around 4:30pm and headed to Sonny's BBQ for dinner after unloading our stuff. The girls were so excited to see their Grandpa and Grandma! Dinner at Sonny's was excellent, as usual! It's always our first meal when we visit Florida. After dinner we returned to the house and the girls had ice cream cones. Since both girls had napped during the flight, neither were tired and it was a little bit of a struggle to get them to go to bed. Finally, they were both in bed at 11pm (10pm Texas time), which really isn't too late.

Both girls were wide awake early Saturday morning and ready to play together. CK wanted to spend the day helping his Dad do things around the farm, so he and Olivia actually started off their day by patching up the hanger roof, while Sofia stayed inside and read book 4 of her newest favorite series, Keeper of the Lost Cities. Meanwhile, I drove to Barnes and Nobles to get the 5th book for Sofia as well as a few good reads for both girls. Sofia has been trying to get her hands on the 5th book of Keeper of the Lost Cities for two months from her library, but hasn't had any luck. So, I figured I'd just buy it for her so she could finish it during our flight or week at Cat Island. She was so excited! Meanwhile, I got Olivia the first book of the Geronimo Stilton series, which she ended up really enjoying. I returned to the farm right before lunch, which we had at the farm. After lunch, the girls spent hours driving like maniacs on the Gator. They each drove me around the farm a few times, which was fun until Olivia drove full speed at the house and didn't know where the brakes were! I stomped on the brakes before we crashed! Yikes! She did learn quickly after that how to stop. The girls loved driving around and they also stopped and picked wildflowers for Grandma, which were really pretty. Grandma put them in small vases and put them on our table for dinner.

For dinner, we had tacos which were delicious! For some strange reason, neither of our girls like tacos! So, they eat the ground beef and toppings by themselves. After dinner and before the biggest ice cream cones I've ever seen, the girls had shower and baths. After their ice creams, the girls watched My Little Pony and then tried everything to stay awake! They didn't go to bed until midnight! Of course, it was only 11pm really, since it was daylight savings. The rest of the house was long asleep before the girls were. But they would have a full week to catch up on their sleep!

CK and the girls are ready to go!

The girls and me, ready to fly (and sleep).
