Sofia's Piano Recital

Yesterday afternoon, Sofia had her Christmas piano recital at a piano store in Keller. Since our piano instructor comes to our house, he doesn't have a natural location to hold recitals and this recital included all of his students, so it was much too big to be held at someone's house. Olivia actually had her friend Hannah's birthday party at Sunbelt Gymnastics and I ended up leaving her at the party with Hannah's mom, Casey to be picked up after Sofia's piano recital.

Sofia planned to play Silent Night and hadn't been practicing as much as she could be in the past few days, although she knew the piece perfectly. As we drove closer to the recital location, she was becoming more apprehensive about the whole thing, especially getting in front of a group of people, I think. We arrived and headed in and when she saw the gathering of parents sitting down and the piano up on short platform, she said she could go through with it and started to back up. She got pretty upset and kept saying she couldn't do the recital and that she didn't want to play the piano anymore. Her last recital in the summer was held at a classmate's house and included less than ten students with a swimming party after. I think she was expecting the same thing and the number of people and formality of the event worried her. We finally calmed her down and talked to James, her piano instructor. She was scheduled to play her piece toward the beginning of the program and took her seat. She ended up playing and did a great job. She didn't look nervous even though she said she was really nervous while she played. We watched the rest of the students perform and told Sofia what a great job she did before we headed out and picked Olivia up at Hannah's house.
