Cowgirls Only!

I finally put together the rocking pony that Grandma and Grandpa Lee gave Sofia for Christmas! CK brought it back in the plane on Saturday and despite our plan to assemble the pony and baby crib on Sunday, it just didn't happen. So, I assembled it this morning - with Sofia, which basically meant that as soon as I would put a piece together she would take it apart, sit on it, or play with something necessary....I finally got it together though and she LOVES it! So cute! Thankfully she's able to get on and off it by herself! Next up: the baby crib (to be assembled while she naps!)

Do you think she likes it?!

Sofia's Wow-owl!

After searching through book stores, toy shops, and even the grocery store, I finally turned to the internet to order Sofia her own stuffed owl (or "wow-owl" as she calls it). She is in love with owls right now and wants to read all of the books that contain owl pictures or drawings. So, the owl named "Hootie" arrived yesterday and there was much excitement when the box opened, however, Sofia quickly tossed Hootie aside to play with the 'birth certificate' that also contains a picture of an owl.....so much for that idea! Since then she has warmed up considerably to Hootie and carries him around most places and slept with him last night and during today's morning nap.

Still happy with Hootie

Going out to pick up our mail. Sofia insisted on bringing Hootie, CK's lunch pail, or "bag" as Sofia calls it, and cloves, which I was using for dinner.....I'm sure our neighbors think we're crazy!

Not only do we live in Texas....

but we eat Texas-shaped grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch! We also eat DC-shaped sandwiches too (thanks, Miss Yvette!) Here are some pictures of her Texas sandwich as well as her lounging with her books.

Future Sushi Eater!

Last night I took Sofia to sushi since CK is in Florida and I've really been craving some tasty tuna rolls, eel sushi, california rolls, and of course miso soup. Well, our little girl ate pretty much everything put in front of her! She LOVED the miso soup and tofu cubes, edamame (however, she's loved that before), steamed gyoza, and even some of my sushi! I couldn't believe it! She particularly loved when I would squeeze the edamame into her mouth and would giggle uncontrollably! Anyway, I don't have pictures of her sushi eating (CK took the camera), but wanted to share.

Right now she is obsessed with owls and alligators (she pronounces them as "wow-owl" and "ah-yo-yo"). She knows all the books that have pictures or characters of owls and alligators and she wants me to read Bear's New Friend over and over (there is not only an owl in it, but it gives her ample opportunity to say "WHO") Very cute!

She also carries her baby around everywhere! She likes all three of the babies she now has, but seems to prefer the baby from Uncle Roger and Aunt Kathy (the one that makes noise of course). Here she is giving baby some breakfast and a cracker - she tries to share everything with baby - even animal cookies and bananas!

Some french toast for baby

And some for Sofia (and she uses her left hand - good girl! :-)

For Sofia's 18 month....

For Sofia's 18 month blog, I wanted to record all of the words she says, which is very difficult because she tries to mimic just about every word or noise that we make now. So, I've made a list (over the past few days, as I hear her say words or remember words she knows), of all those words that she uses regularly with us! So, here it is:

Papa
Mommy
Mimi
Grandpa
Grandma
Baby
People

Hi
Bye Bye
No (trust me, she knows this one VERY well - she says it a million times a day)
Yeah (her version of yes)
Puppy
Wow-owl
Ah-yoyo (Aligator)
Bear
Fish

Wa-Wa (water)
pizza
cookie
Nana (Banana)
Ice

Sofia at the park

On Friday, CK went flying so Sofia and I visited a local park that had a great jungle gym with slide. Sofia loved it - I think she climbed the stairs and went down the slide at least 20 times! The weather was beautiful so the park was full of kids her age, as well as dogs! So, when she wasn't sliding down the slide, she was running across the park saying "puppy, puppy, puppy" until the given dog would lick her, then she would dissolve into screams and laughter! Very cute! I was told more than once that we'll have to get her a dog......

Happy New Year 2009!

We went over to Charlie, Marcie and Sophia's house to ring in 2009 and Sofia actually lasted through midnight! She spent most of the evening playing in Sophia's room (all those 'new' toys!!) while the adults and rest of the kids were downstairs or playing in the garage. Sofia did lay her head on Sophie's bed and say "night, night" from time to time, but she lasted like a champ! Around midnight we took some books down into their living room so we could toast in the new year. The next day we made orange rolls (which took forever to rise) and waffles and spent the day relaxing. That evening we made hoppin' johns, corn bread and pork loin.

Just before midnight

Happy 2009!
