Happy Valentine's Day!

The afternoon before Valentine's Day, the girls and I made Valentine's Day sugar cookies. They are our favorite sugar cookie recipe and we made heart cookies (as well as Texas shape cookies). Of course, I didn't realize I was out of corn syrup and almond extract for the frosting until 7:30pm and had to run to the grocery store. We all frosted the cookies together and the girls added sanding sugar to some of the cookies. They all turned out so cute and yummy looking.

Sofia decided to make special Valentine's cards for her favorites - her math teacher Mrs. Bereuter, her humanities teacher, Mrs. B, and her two best friends, Liam and Carmel. They each turned out really cute, but the best part was the very personal and heartfelt message she wrote to each of her favorite people. She really is such a sweet and thoughtful young lady and I loved her heartfelt message to each of them. She packaged up her cookies for her four favorites and she was so excited to deliver everything.

CK and I decided to cook a special meal for Valentine's day and we planned out a great meal for that night. When I picked Sofia up from school she said Mrs. Bereuter gave her the biggest hug ever for her cookies and sweet Valentine's card. She said her gifts and card were the only thing Mrs. B got! She said she felt really bad for her. She was sort of expecting to get more candy grams from her friends but only got one from her friend Carmel and another from another girl, who she said she wasn't really great friends with. She was a little bummed, but I told her that it was how things happened sometimes. She really was surprised that Liam didn't get her one, but I know his Mom is super busy and life is pretty crazy. I tried to tell her not to read too much into things. She said even though it was a rough half of the day, she knew to rest of the day would be great with her family! She really is so sweet!

For dinner, we had pork loin, baked sweet potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, asparagus and molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Olivia actually had her make-up tennis lesson from Monday, when it was raining. So, we returned to the house around 5:30pm and started cooking. CK had just returned from a work trip, so he was glad to be home and celebrate with us. He brought me a gorgeous bouquet of red roses that smell amazing and are gorgeous! Our dinner was ready around 7:00pm and turned out perfectly! It was all so delicious and we were all hungry. The molten lava cake and vanilla ice cream really topped it off. Then we opened presents. I'd gone to the See's candy store at Northeast Mall to pick up a few things for the girls and CK. I also got two small boxes of chocolates for Antonio and Luca. I got the girls each a box of Valentine's candy and CK a red heart of assorted chocolates. Ironically, he got me the exact same gift, except nuts and chews! I love it! Great hearts think a like. See's is the best! We were all too full to eat more sweets, so we waited to enjoy our See's candy! What a fun Valentine's Day celebration!

Valentine's dinner! So delicious! Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a "before dinner" photo and only took an "after" when were done eating.
