Fun On Cedar Creek Lake

This weekend we spent at Cedar Creek Lake, which is only a 1.5 hour drive from our house and is a beautiful and relaxing weekend lake! CK's colleague and friend, Sandy and his wife Diane, asked us to spend a weekend at their lake house in Enchanted Oaks, TX. Sandy has talked to us about Cedar Creek Lake for years and we were excited to finally be able to spend a weekend with them at their lake house. The girls were excited, since they absolutely loved their trip to Smith Lake this summer! On Friday night, we celebrated my birthday with CK grilling steaks, making corn and a salad. After dinner, I opened presents while we ate birthday cake and ice cream. It was a great way to end the week and the girls made me sweet cards and CK and the girls bought me a beautiful new skirt and top and some great perfume and hand lotion along with a few nice candles. It was fantastic!

We woke up Saturday morning and headed to Sandy and Diane's house around 9am, leaving Buddy at Marco and Stacy's house. It was an easy drive and interesting to see how quickly the landscape changes from Dallas to fields and country. We made it to their beautiful lake house and the girls were in their swimsuits and swimming in their pool within 15 minutes. We rode on Sandy and Diane's golf cart to go see a house of some friends who are planning on selling their lake house. We looked inside the house which is a super cute A-frame with a gorgeous grassy spread to a joint boathouse shared with the neighbors. It is so relaxing and quiet! It just felt like a great place to spend long summer weekends and watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee by the fire pit...

We returned to Sandy and Diane's house and had really delicious chicken tamales for lunch and then changed into our swimsuits and headed out on their boat. The girls were super excited to get on the water and kept calling Sandy "Captain Sandy" and helped get the boat ready. The girls rode on the tube for a bit, but Olivia was scared to go over 6 miles an hour, so she got off and CK joined Sofia so they could ride faster. After the tube, CK surfed and I tried, but never got up which was sort of frustrating. Then, CK got up on water skis to show Sofia how much fun it could be. He got up after a few tries and then Sofia decided to give it a try. By then it was near 4pm and after a few attempts, Sofia was done. She said the skis kept getting behind her and hitting her in the elbows. She said she really wanted to learn, but would want to wake up first thing in the morning and try.

We returned to Sandy and Diane's to sit out on their patio and enjoy snacks, drinks and talk. CK took the girls out on Sandy's jet ski. They love to ride on jet skis, although Sofia loves going as fast as possible while Olivia's is much more timid. Sandy suggested where CK should take the girls, hoping he wouldn't get lost when they wanted to return. They did great and had a really fun time. It was such a fun and relaxing day and all four of us understood the allure of lake-life. For dinner, Sandy grilled steaks and Diane made a salad and twice-baked potatoes which were really great. The salad she fixed was a tomato, watermelon and basil salad on a salt block. She said they had first had it at a Dallas restaurant and she has recreated it for years. It was really different and delicious. We watched a little Florida Gator football before going off to bed with the girls going to the "girl's wing" and CK and I heading to the "boy's wing" of their second floor. Sandy and Diane have a son and daughter and when they built their lake house about seven years ago they decided to have a traditional boy's room along with a girl's room but both also have a long, narrow room that includes four twin beds each! So, the upstairs rooms can comfortably hold 12 people! CK and I each had our very own twin bed, which always makes me think of college when that's all I slept in for four years. It feels so tiny now that we sleep in a king-sized bed.

The next morning, we packed up and enjoyed a great breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon before we had to say our goodbyes. It was a short weekend, but so much fun and such a great visit. We could really get used to lake-living! We'll have to see what happens with the cute A-frame house....maybe it's in our future!
