Sofia's First Day of Kindergarden

What a day - Olivia's first birthday and Sofia's first day of Kindergarden! It was hard to get Sofia up and alert at 6:30am, but in order to get her dressed, fed and off to school by 7:45am we figured we should get her up on the early side. CK got her ready and she came down wanting to play before breakfast which is what she always did before Spanish Schoolhouse. Such a big change for our little girl. She's usually not ready to eat breakfast when she first wakes up, so I tried something new and made her "french toast sticks" that she could dip in syrup. It worked, although she still didn't eat much.

Before we took her off to school, we took pictures of our big girl but it took awhile for her to smile for us. She seemed really apprehensive over the entire idea of Kindergarden, and was concerned over the long days. Finally, she warmed up to our and her Grandparent's coaxing and smiled, especially from her Papa. The three of us headed out the door around 7:30am while Olivia stayed with her Grandparents. We drove the short distance to school, parked and walked Sofia to her classroom which is "encouraged" for the first week after which they prefer the kids walk by themselves from the front door to their classroom. Once in the front door, Sofia didn't seem apprehensive at all and walked ahead of CK and I toward her classroom. Once we arrived at Mrs. Patterson's room we watched Sofia put away her backpack and lunchbox in a cubby and gave her a few hugs and kisses before she headed over to one of the tables to play with her new classmates. She was perfectly happy which CK and I were very thankful for since we were both struggling with watching our little girl go off to her big classroom, knowing that she'll be doing so for many years in her future.

When I picked her up from school, Sofia was in a good mood and said she'd had fun so I asked her what her favorite part of the day was and she said "Going to the park (the playground)." So I asked her what her second favorite part of her day was and she said "Um, that was pretty much it."

Packing my very first Kindergarden lunch - peanut butter and jelly sandwich, carrots with hummus, yogurt and two surprise hershey kisses for a treat.

Yum!
