Cumberland Island

We had a great time walking on Cumberland Island and Calvin had the extra duty of pushing Sofia's stroller everywhere! When Sofia was being carried, we used the stroller to store our shoes and bag of shells once we reached the beach.

The ruins of Dungeness. Thomas and Lucy Carnegie built this house in 1884 and Lucy and her 9 (yikes) children lived full-time on the island after Thomas died. When the children married, Lucy had a home built nearby for the newlyweds. Surrounding the home was an entertainment hall with a heated swimming pool, squash, a beauty salon, etc, and the children lacked for nothing. This home was the site of a Carnegie-Rockerfeller wedding in the 1950s, and it burned down in 1959. This is virtually the only remains of that time.
