Sofia's "new" room
On Sunday July 24th, CK moved Sofia's bed up to her "new" room for her first night sleep upstairs. When we first started discussing which rooms Sofia and the new baby should sleep in, I originally suggested that the baby's room be upstairs, but CK wisely convinced me that having the baby in Sofia's room downstairs was easier and safer. So, we decided to move Sofia up to the larger of the two guest rooms and she wasn't that impressed with the decision to begin with. However, the more we talked about it she got more and more excited. Finally, she was ready to move upstairs once we repainted her new room. She originally asked that her room upstairs be pink, and we agreed that one pink room per house was enough, so I picked out a few sample colors that were a more gender-neutral blue-green-silver color that we thought would work in the baby's room. I painted a few sample squares on the wall and Sofia completely fell in love with one of the samples and kept saying she wanted it for her new room! Problem solved! So, we had her new room repainted in the blue-green-silver color she picked out and repainted the baby's room so the bead board bottom half of the room is now white and the top half of the walls are a a little brighter pink than before.
Along with the bed, we moved Sofia's books and most of her toys upstairs, but are waiting to pick out a book case to store all of her books (we need the baskets that are holding her books for the baby's room to hold diapers). So, Sunday night CK took Sofia upstairs after hugs and kisses and read her stories in her "new" room. She slept great that night and has since! She also goes upstairs every day to read and play and also whenever she needs to go potty. She's completely taken with her new room which is exciting and a lot easier than we expected!

The Balloon Festival
On Saturday July 23rd we drove about an hour to Midlothian to watch the afternoon launch of hot air balloons in the DFW Summer Balloon Classic AirFest. We really wanted to watch the morning launch, but after we figured out we'd need to leave our house at 5:30am, we decided to go for the afternoon festivities instead. When we arrived we caught the last half of the air show taking place, which was interesting to watch. After it ended, we went into town for a quick Mexican dinner and returned just in time to watch several of the hot air balloons launch! Sofia loved it! She was so excited that we'd be watching hot air balloons and couldn't stop talking about it before and after we saw them launch. We stayed and watched the "balloon glow" at dusk before heading home. Although a very hot afternoon, it was worth the drive and fun to watch.

Our 6th Anniversary!
July 9th marked six happy years of marriage and we actually got a decent photograph of us as a couple thanks to our babysitter, Megan. Our anniversary fell on a Saturday, so we spent the day looking at furniture since we decided to buy a nice gift for the house versus gifts for each other. We've been wanting a new desk and book case in the office, so we were lucky to find two beautiful pieces at El Paso Imports. The desk is an old door from India which has been converted to a desk and the book case is also from India and is beautifully carved. Sofia loved "helping us" and was busy measuring everything in the store with her tape measure. That evening, we left Sofia with Megan and went to a new restaurant called Butterfly, which offered tapas and eclectic food. It had live piano music and the food and atmosphere was fantastic. It was a great way to celebrate six years together!

Happy 4th of July!
We had another full day on the 4th of July! We started out our morning by walking up to the annual "Pancakes on the Plaza" event which is sponsored by the Santa Fe Lions Club and for the price of a ticket you get a plate of pancakes, ham, and juice and then enjoy it while sitting in the Plaza listening to live music and watching all the festivities. We brought Aunt and Uncle's folding chairs so we were really sitting in comfort and had a great location to watch everyone as they arrived and walked around the crowded Plaza. On the far side of the Plaza was an old car show so we took turns walking down and looking at all the vintage cars that have been restored. They were incredible and Sofia fell in love with an "old" (as she calls it) Bettle Bug. We spent most of the morning just taking in the sights and sounds of the Plaza's activities.
That afternoon we headed over to Aunt and Uncle's friends Chris and Mike's for a BBQ with a group of their friends. Sofia loved playing in Mike and Chris' yard and collecting "nuts and carrots" (rocks and sticks) from their yard. After a delicious burger, we headed out so that we didn't miss the fireworks at the Santa Fe High School. From past visits, Aunt and Uncle had the perfect location to view the fireworks that kept us out of the chaos of the high school parking lot and stadium and it couldn't have been more perfect! We set up their folding chairs on the ridge outside of the high school and watched a spectacular fireworks show! Sofia sat on Aunt Shirl's lap and enjoyed the entire event! It was a great fireworks show and we headed home after a long, fun day for a great sleep!

Santa Fe with Aunt and Uncle
On Saturday morning, July 2nd we flew out to Santa Fe to spend the long weekend of 4th of July with Aunt and Uncle. We went back and forth in our decision to go since there was a big fire in Los Alamos that created a lot of smoke and soot, but we finally decided to head out. We were really happy we went since we had a great long weekend with Aunt and Uncle and did a lot in that short time! After we arrived and had lunch, we headed out to Los Golondrinas Hacienda for a festival that included wine tasting (wines from New Mexico, who knew?!), a great live band, stands of crafts to buy, taco and smoothie stands, and the Hacienda was fun to explore too. We spent a few hours checking out all of the stands, listening and/or dancing to the music, walking around the Hacienda and really enjoyed the festival.
After, we returned to the casita to relax and nap before Uncle Steve fired up the BBQ and we enjoyed a delicious meal of corn, salad and grilled salmon. We then headed out to Sofia's first movie in a theater to see "Buck" which was a Sundance film that follows the horse trainer Buck Brannaman and his incredible ability to train and communicate with horses. He was a big inspiration of the movie "The Horse Whisperer" and is a real life "whisperer." It was a fascinating film and Sofia was great until the "question and answer" portion with the executive producer (who lives in Santa Fe) at the end of the movie. She sat through the movie, ate her popcorn, and aside from a few questions didn't move around much. After the movie, she was ready to sit on Uncle Steve's lap and kept moving around from lap to lap, but stayed quiet and everyone around us told us at the end how fantastic she was during the movie! She was the only child there, so we were pleased that she enjoyed it and was so patient. After, we headed home and went to bed after a very full and fun day!
