Day 4: Beach Time and Kayaking

CK and I headed to the big house around 8am for coffee and some breakfast and were able to see the most remarkable rainbow! It actually went from the island directly behind the boat in the harbor and was full and bright. It was made all the more impressive by the dark clouds in the background. Everyone in the big house went out on the patio to take a picture of the rainbow. After breakfast, I took a walk to the far end of the bay which is always so peaceful and interesting to see our bay from a totally different perspective. I also love to take pictures of the ocean and the tiny shells that seem to be everywhere this year. The girls are past collecting shells, but I've spend time every day picking up nice shells, especially the really tiny ones. I think they are just amazing.

The girls finally got up and rolled into the big house for breakfast just before they put all the food away at 10am. They were both in their swimsuits and ready to hit the sand and ocean. One great benefit of the strong winds, is that the girls' swimsuits dry in hours. In past visits we've had to rely on several changes of swimsuits because they stay wet for days, but the windy conditions certainly help with dry clothes after swimming.

After breakfast the girls and Charlie played in the sand, tried to bury Charlie in sand and swam together. I hung out on the lounge chair and read my book and kept an eye on the kids. We took a break at lunchtime and had lunch at the big house, which is delicious. I love their cheeseburgers, but chose a salad and was not disappointed. Their grilled cheese with bacon is also equally delicious.

After lunch and relaxing for a bit, Lisa, Charlie, Sofia and I decided to kayak around the point of the bay and the kids wanted to jump off the jumping rock. Olivia had showered, changed into dry clothes and wanted to hang out with her Papa and read. Chris and Allen got into a double kayak with us and paddled out too, even though neither of them planned on jumping. Due to the strong winds, it was hard paddling to get around the point, but then it was a little bit easier once we were around the point and in the open ocean. We paddled to the tiny cove where Sofia got out and climbed up to the top of the jumping off rock with Charlie. However, Lisa and I realized that because it was low tide, it really wasn't safe for the kids to jump. So, the kids stood on the jumping rock, but then finally walked back down to get in the kayaks. I'd brought our masks and snorkels, so Charlie and Sofia snorkeled around for a bit before getting back into the kayaks and we headed back around the point and into Fernandez Bay. It was so low tide that we could get out and walk about halfway to the shore on the near-side of the bay. So, the kids had a great time exploring and looking for shells and animals. Lisa and I looked for shells but didn't have much luck. We were hoping to find sand dollars, but didn't find any. The kids stayed and played in the shallows while Lisa and I kayaked back to the big house. We lounged on the beach and read until it was time to get ready for drinks and dinner.

We made our way up to the big house in time to watch the sunset and hang out with Chip, Lisa, Chris and Allen. Chip made his famous pina coladas for the kids and they enjoyed them while playing Roblox together. It's cute to watch them play in the sand and ocean, but also to geek out on some dorky video game together too. Dinner was delicious and we enjoyed hanging out after dinner with dessert and chatting. Finally, around 10:30pm we went to bed and the girls stayed up and read until who knows how late! Another relaxing and fun day.
