Summer Fun at the Lake

We closed on our lake house at Cedar Creek Lake on October 31st last year and waited until March, when the couple renting the house moved out and into the house they bought. We had the inside of the house painted and new carpet put into the bedrooms and were super excited to spend lots of fun weekends at our new place. We ended up having to replace our air conditioner too, which made a world of difference! We couldn't wait to have friends over and to spend long weekends over the summer. We spent our first full weekend at the house on April 27th and worked on getting everything in order. Over the next few months, we bought used furniture off Facebook Marketplace and searched for things we needed for our kitchen and other rooms. The girls and I built an outdoor Target table for our patio, which became our dining room table for a while until we found a suitable table and chairs for our dining room.

I really wanted to have adirondack chairs for our back yard, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. So, I found some pine chairs at Ace Hardware for $40 each. I had to assemble them, stain them and then polyurethane them. It took three coats of polyurethane, which took me forever and I was nearly ready to give up, but had spent so much time working on the chairs, that I really couldn't stop! Once they were done, they really did look fantastic! We took them to the lake and they have been used every day that we are there. The girls love to hang out on them and talk and relax. I love enjoying coffee in the morning while looking out over the lake. It's the most relaxing thing in the world.

CK has become a great boat captain and we've worked out a good system to get the boat out of the dock and back inside. CK is a pro at pulling the girls and their friends on the hot dog and floaty. He's also become a good surfer and I think I've become decent at driving the boat when he's out on the surfboard. Such fun to enjoy out on the lake. Olivia prefers going on the jet ski to the boat. She loves to go as fast as possible, and loves it! She's crazy! The jet ski will go 40 mph, but I'm most comfortable going 25 or so. So, I usually only go 40 for a minute or less. Sofia likes going on the jet ski, but she much prefers going on the boat because she absolutely loves being pulled on the hot dog and/or floaty. She literally can spend hours on either! Olivia is scared of getting on the hot dog or floaty after she got scared by being pulled under the hot dog briefly when she bailed off the front of the hot dog, rather than to the side. I keep trying to convince her to go with me, but she won't go. She will at some point. I feel really bad that she's so scared though.

Over the summer, we had several families out to the lake for the weekend and had so much fun with each of them. Generally, the four of us would head to the lake on Friday around lunchtime and the girls and I would stay until Tuesday, when we would drive back for their piano lessons. Sometimes CK would stay until Tuesday, but would often have to drive back and work on Sunday afternoon. I can't take the boat out, but the girls and I would load up on one jet ski and spend time going around the shoreline, stop to swim, and would also go across to the marina to get more fuel and buy ice creams. The summer seemed to go by so quickly, but we look forward to enjoying the fall and even the winter weekends out at the lake!
