Sofia's 4th Grade Performance

Last night was Sofia's 4th grade performance and she was so excited to sing and play the recorder. She's been singing the songs to us of the past few days, but wouldn't tell us much about the actual performance. Unfortunately, CK was in Houston for work and wasn't able to make it. The girls and I ate dinner early and actually got to the school around 6:35pm so Olivia and I could pick out good seats and Sofia could meet with her classmates and Mrs. Neugent, the music teacher, in the gym where they would pick out their recorders and prepare for their performance. Olivia and I picked seats in the 3rd row on the right and another mom suggested I ask Sofia where she would be standing on the stage. On my way to the gym, I ran into one of Sofia's friends who told me Sofia would be standing in the front row to the right, so our seats would be perfect. Olivia found her best friend, Hannah, who was sitting with her mom on the far side of the stage and they ended up hanging out together and goofing off. They are crazy little girls together but enjoy each other so much. Casey and I texted each other since I couldn't see her and she said the girls planned to sit at her feet to watch the performance.

All the 4th graders filed into the cafeteria and up on the stage and Sofia was front row on the right hand side! My seat was perfect and she saw me as she walked into the room. They all looked great in their yellow t-shirts and jeans and looked so great. Mrs. Neugent introduced the class and explained that they have spent the year learning the recorder, as well as traditional Texas songs. They got started and sounded terrific! Mrs. Neugent does such a great job of leading the kids through the songs and recorder pieces. I don't remember learning how to play the recorder, but Mrs. Neugent said most 3rd or 4th graders across the country learn it. They sang Texas, Our Texas, I'm Going to Leave Old Texas Now, The Eyes of Texas, and Salute to Texas Medley (Yellow Rose of Texas and Deep in the Heart of Texas). Between the songs, they played Walk Like a Mummy, AAA, Perry the Sheep, Baba Ohh La La, Hot Cross Buns and Sir Binko Larch Leads the March on their recorders. The recorder song AAA included a rap in between playing and it was absolutely fantastic! Sofia got really into it and was awesome! She's such a great performer and really loved it!

The performance ended around 7:45pm and we headed to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream to celebrate after chatting with several friends and their parents. The ice cream was just perfect and really was delicious! We each enjoyed our single scoop of ice cream before heading home for bed. Such a fun performance!
