For my birthday day, CK made dinner for us on Friday night and then we'd had Olivia's former preschool teacher babysit while we went out to dinner at Next on Saturday night. So, Medieval Times was a continuation of a fantastic birthday weekend! We arrived shortly before the show began and were assigned to the red and yellow knight section and were given our crowns. Sofia was so super excited and could hardly contain herself as the show began. Olivia sat next to me and nearly from the beginning she kept asking "When are they going to fight?" She couldn't wait for the fighting to begin! I couldn't believe it! Our meals were served and we started with tomato soup, which was rather sweet and Olivia really enjoyed it, while Sofia was way too focused on the dancing horses and knights who paraded into the arena and were introduced by the king and his daughter, the princess. After soup we were each served a half of potato and half of a chicken, all of which we had to eat with our hands. The kids loved it and it was actually very tasty.
As it seemed everyone was finishing up their meals and our plates were being collected, the show really began with the knights jousting and then sword-fighting after they were pushed off their horses. It is really quite an amazing and impressive show and the knights were awesome. Both girls were completely transfixed. Our knight actually won and was given carnations to throw up into his crowd of supporters. He actually threw one up to Sofia, but it went over her head and the little boy sitting next to me jumped up and grabbed it. His mom told him to give it to Sofia though, which was really very thoughtful and Sofia was so happy. She kept calling it a "rose" even though it was just a white carnation.
Of course, our winning knight was challenged by a knight representing the evil king who wanted to take over the entire kingdom, but thankfully our knight won. The show ended and Sofia said it was the most fun she's had ever! Olivia loved it too and we headed into the great hall for the girls to meet the knights. After a few minutes they all came out and we ended up getting our picture with the evil knight, since it didn't seem like many people wanted to meet him. Poor guy. Of course the girls wanted a souvenir too and CK bought them each a sword made of soft rubber. They were so happy and couldn't wait to fight each other!
We made it back to our car without anyone getting an eye poked out by one of the swords and made our way home. It was such a fun night and CK and I agreed that Sofia probably wants to be a knight now over a scientist and author! What a fantastic birthday weekend!
