Saturday was a busy day even before Sofia's piano recital. It was a rainy and dreary day and we'd originally planned to decorate our Christmas tree that morning, but didn't have time to pick one out on Friday afternoon. So, instead we all hung out Saturday morning and enjoyed CK's homemade biscuits and scrambled eggs. Early afternoon Sofia had a gymnastics birthday party for her friend and classmate Elena. Due to the piano recital start time, Sofia could only stay at the party for 45 minutes, but we figured it was better than not going. Elena is really sweet and a good friend and playmate at school, so I wanted Sofia to enjoy a little time with her and help her celebrate her birthday.
After picking Sofia up from Elena's party, we raced home and Sofia changed into her "Christmas" dress and tights and I braided her hair before we all loaded up and headed to the piano store in Keller where Mr. James hosts his piano recitals. As we walked into the store, Sofia looked confident and relaxed and posed for a great photo of her by a piano and Christmas tree. We headed in and found good seats while Sofia headed to let Mr. James know that she was there and ready to play. James and his students took a group photo while we waited for a few more performers to arrive.
The performance started and it was fun to listen to all of James' students play Christmas music. Soon, it was time for Sofia to play her choice of "Joy to the World" which she apparently chose because of my name. She played perfectly and it sounded so good, especially on the piano she used. Our piano is out of tune, so even when she plays her music well it doesn't quite sound right. She looked completely relaxed and comfortable but after the recital we asked how she felt and she said she was nervous and in the middle of the song before she went up to play she "felt like there were miniature dragons and dinosaurs that had eaten butterflies running around on a moving track." Love her imagination!
The recital lasted about an hour and then we said goodbye to Sofia's friend Shivani and her family and also thanked and said goodbye to James. Just before we left, Olivia sat at the piano and played on it for a few minutes. I told her that she should perform in Mr. James' recital in June. Hopefully she's ready by then. She's been taking lessons since September and really enjoys playing the piano. We headed home for dinner and relaxing! What a fun performance! So happy for Sofia.
Sofia is ready to play "Joy to the World." I love this picture of her!
