Dying Easter Eggs

We finally had nice enough weather to dye Easter eggs on Saturday afternoon! About a week before, I hard boiled four cartons of 18 eggs, so both girls would have plenty to dye and experiment with this year. I considered setting it up for the girls to do with their Oregon cousins, but decided against it with the rainy and cold weather. It really is something that needs to be done outside, so our entire house isn't dyed a bunch of crazy colors. I set up an egg dying station for each girl at our outdoor table and set out their eggs. They were so excited to get started! I love dying eggs and watching them figure out how they plan to be creative. This year I bought a glitter kit and we tried it with a few eggs, and it turned out to be really pretty! However, we ran out of the glue pretty quickly, so we only glittered a few eggs. The girls were more interested in dying the eggs anyway.

The girls sat down at their dying spots and got busy! Olivia is quick and uses her hands, so by the time she was done her hands were a dark brown! Sofia is more thorough and plans out each egg and how she wants it to look, so she took her time and still had nearly all of her eggs undyed as Olivia was coming to the finish. Once Olivia finished dying her eggs, she wanted me to get "all of the dye" off her hands. So, I used baking soda and vinegar to rub her hands and got most of the egg dye off her hands.

It took the girls a little over an hour to finish up their eggs and then they went off to play. I love that they both enjoy dying eggs still and look forward doing it each Easter.
