Sofia's Birthday at the Beach!

Sofia woke up at 6:45am, obviously excited to be the big TEN years old! We asked her who she felt now that she is officially in the double digits, and she said she didn't feel any different than she did the day before. For her birthday breakfast, CK and Connie made pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon - the perfect start to a great birthday! We all sat around the dining room table and enjoyed breakfast before the girls and I changed into swimsuits ready for a full and fun day at the beach. When we asked her what she wanted to do for her big day, she said she wanted to "spend the whole day at the beach." The four of us headed down to the beach with towels, beach toys, umbrellas and a bag full of water and snacks. We found a great spot to settle in and the girls ran off into the ocean. The girls tried to dive under waves and also tried to body surf into the beach. Sofia is actually pretty good at it and I know they would be great on body boards. Unfortunately, CK and Connie forgot them at their house. They had a great time body surfing and CK and I swam with them for a while too. The water is really refreshing, so it is great to swim and cool off after sitting in the hot sun.

When we were ready to take a swim break, we build a really cool sand castle with a moat. I built the sand castle towers, Olivia collected shells, while Sofia and CK decorated the sand castle towers with the shells collected by Olivia. Of course, each shell had to be "cleaned off" before being added to the tower, so Olivia ran back and forth to collect pales full of water to use. The sand castle turned out great and after we were done the girls and I swam as far out as we could go while CK returned to the condo to make sandwiches for us all. He returned to the beach and we dried off and enjoyed ham sandwiches, PB&J sandwiches, goldfish, oreos, gatorades and blood orange Pelegrenos. It was the best birthday lunch!

We stayed on the beach, collecting shells, swimming and looking for sand crabs until about 3:30pm! We'd all had plenty of sun by then, so we collected our things and headed up to the condo. The girls showered and then watched a few Star Wars episodes while sitting in our bed. Meanwhile, CK and I headed out to pick up the cake and pizzas from Joe's New York Pizza to continue the birthday celebration!
