Chandler, Jillian and Jackson arrived from Atlanta on Friday afternoon and Olivia and Sofia couldn't wait for their cousins to arrive! Sofia didn't want to go to school that day (even though it was Fun Day) because she wanted to be sure to be home when they arrived. Meanwhile, Olivia talked every day about "cousin Jillian coming!" and couldn't wait for Friday to be here! Unfortunately, it was a cold (mid-60s) and rainy day and promised to be a very wet long weekend with very little sun. After they arrived and got settled into the house, we hung out and talked until 5:30pm when we loaded up and drove to Roanoke for some real BBQ from Hard Eight. We haven't eaten there in ages and were excited to go. The food was as great as usual and we lingered and caught up for a while before heading across the street to the sweet shop, Hey Sugar. The kids climbed all over the coin-operated horse and car and got to ride them both a few times, all while eating ice cream. It doesn't get any better than that! We headed home and the kids went to bed, ready for another fun day together.
On Saturday morning, the kids all woke up before anyone else and were playing downstairs. CK made biscuits, eggs and bacon just as Sofia and I were heading to the end of the year soccer party. While we were gone, CK and Cynthia ran a few errands to pick up things Cynthia forgot at home and Jay watched the kids. Once Sofia and I returned from the soccer party, the kids were so happy to play together, create train routes and just hang out. They have such a fun time together, which is great. Saturday night we invited our neighbors over to enjoy dinner together and had a great time. CK grilled tri-tip and we cooked corn and green beans and also had salad. It was so fun to spend the evening talking and eating and the kids had fun playing.
On Sunday we went to Meeting at Al and Jill's house and then headed to the Blue Goose Restaurant where we met up with their cousin Tanya, Jason and their three kids Eric, Adam, and Jessica. We haven't seen them in ages even though we only live about 10 miles from each other and I couldn't believe how big their three kids have become! After lunch, we headed outside where the kids played in the fountain and got soaking wet. It started to rain a little, so we said our goodbyes and headed to our car. By the time we got home, the weather had cleared up so all the kids changed into their swimsuits and jumped into the pool. It was a great break from all the rain we've had, although the pool water wasn't nearly as warm as it usually is by this time. I also discovered that Jackson is as big of a tomato fan as I am and he nearly denuded my cherry tomato plant of its fruit. Jackson also loved getting kissed by Buddy and I loved trying to capture it with my camera. Sunday night we ate up leftovers and just relaxed and talked together.
