On Wednesday morning Pancho headed out to Las Vegas for a meeting and left so early that we'd said goodbye to him the night before. It was great to see him and spend some time together. Becky had a doctor's appointment in the middle of the day, so she suggested that we go with Megan to Atascadero to enjoy the zoo and picnic at the park next to the zoo. She made us turkey sandwiches and packed chips, grapes and water and we headed up the road. It's such a beautiful area and the hour drive brought back great memories of driving down the 101 with my parents when I was younger. Also, Megan's boyfriend lives in San Luis Obispo so he planned to meet us at the zoo.
We made it to the Charles Paddock Zoo and paid our $4 each to get in and started exploring. The zoo is tiny but it's so cute and we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The girls had a ball looking at the flamingos, monkeys, birds, prairie dogs, and tiger. Peyton, Megan's boyfriend met us in the zoo and we had fun walking around.
Once we were done visiting the zoo, we walked over to the park and enjoyed Becky's delicious picnic. I love how sandwiches always taste so delicious when someone else makes them! The girls headed to the park and played after eating and Olivia ran to the swings while Sofia headed to the jungle gym. She's been on a kick to figure out how to do the monkey bars and can go just a few rings before she runs out of momentum. She takes them one at a time so I tried to teach her how to swing to the next bar. Unfortunately, she misunderstood and tried to skip one causing a serious face plant into the sand. After some frustration and a few tears, she dusted herself off and went at it again. We played for a bit longer and then headed back to Megan's house.
Before dinner Megan and the girls worked on building animal keychains with beads. Becky had a book and beads from when Megan and Michael were young and the three of them loved it. Sofia was actually pretty good at it, while Olivia needed a lot of Megan's help. They had a great time though. After dinner, Megan wanted to show the girls one of her favorite movies called "Second Hand Lions" with Robert Duval. It was such a sweet, fun story and the girls loved it. We really enjoyed it and relaxed after dinner and before bath and bed. Again, Olivia was a bit of a pain going to bed but she finally slept when I came to bed around 11pm!
