We got the girls dressed and ready and packed Sofia's backpack with snacks, waters, a change of clothes for Olivia, diapers, money and wipes. Pretty much anything either of them would need. John and Lynn pulled up to our hotel in Fred, John's 1974 robin's egg blue convertible VW Bug. The girls went crazy - they were so excited to go for a ride in such a cool car! CK loaded and attached Olivia's car seat into the backseat, we strapped the girls in and they were off to the zoo! John and Lynn offered to take the girls to the zoo and meet us in the afternoon.
After waving goodbye to John, Lynn and the girls, we took off and walked around Santa Barbara, exploring restaurants, window shopping and just enjoying our time together. It was lovely! First, we were really hungry and finally settled on the Santa Barbara Brewing Company, which was really busy and the food looked great. The food was delicious and it was fun to take our time and enjoy lunch together. After lunch we continued walking up State Street and bought two flashlights that we plan to put on the stairs at night for the girls so neither of them tumbled down them in the dark. Lynn and I kept in touch through texts and she sent me a few pictures of the elephants and giraffes that they saw at the zoo. They were having a ball and apparently Olivia would only ask "where's Mommy?" when she would hear someone else call for their mom.
We reconnected with John, Lynn and the girls at John and Lynn's house for an early dinner. After the zoo, they returned to the house and Sofia watched the Lego Movie while Olivia watched or played. John and Lynn made salmon and a big salad which was delicious. We ate, talked and enjoyed the lovely Santa Barbara evening together!
Waiting for their ride. Sofia with a book in hand, as usual.
Huge smiles! All strapped in and ready to go!
