Yesterday we went to the Dallas Area Train Show in Plano with Marco, Stacy, Antonio and Luca. We started going a few years ago when Sofia really loved trains and have kept up the tradition, although last year I completely forgot to check which weekend the train show was on and we ended up missing it. This year, we coordinated with Marco and Stacy and they drove us all in their minivan. Sofia said she didn't want to go and wanted to stay home and jump on the trampoline instead. We told her that she could do that after we returned.
We arrived and headed in to the main showroom where all of the trains and landscapes were set up. Thankfully, Sofia is now tall enough that she doesn't need to be picked up to see the train scenes, which is great since she's now 80 lbs! Olivia still needs to be lifted up for most of them, and CK ended up putting her on his shoulders and walking around so she had a great view. Sofia, who didn't even want to go to the train show ended up getting completely engrossed in each display and would walk around following one of the trains, quietly talking to herself. I'm certain she was busy making up a story but she would clam up each time I got close to her. Antonio stuck with us and Stacy and Luca explored other areas. After a while, we headed out to the courtyard so the kids could ride on the train, which they always love to do! At $5 a ride, they ended up only riding on it once, despite their protests. They did each get a really cool train-shaped whistle, which they really loved to blow.
After riding on the train, we headed inside for popcorn and then to the big room that have the garden-sized trains. They sat on the floor and watched the trains going around for awhile and then we decided it might be time to head home. We loaded up and the kids were all bummed to leave. Sofia was actually the most sad and she really wanted to stay longer or come back. Of course, she did! We headed back to our houses and drove through a really hard rain for a while, which was crazy since it was such a beautiful day until that point. Once we made it home, we decided to order pizzas and salads while the kids jumped on the trampoline. They had a great time and it was a fun way to end the day.
