On Monday afternoon, I posted Olivia's crib and changing table to Craig's List thinking I would have most of the week to buy her a full mattress and box spring so we could get the bed frame down from the attic and set up her big girl bed. Since we've lived in this area, it seems like things posted on Craig's List take a good amount of time before someone responds looking to buy the item. However, this time I had a text from a prospective buyer within an hour! The young man who I ended up talking to about the crib was translating for his mom who we later found out is due with her fourth child. Just after 6pm, the entire family arrived in their minivan and agreed to buy our crib for $100, which we took apart in front of them so they could see how it went back together. They were a very sweet Hispanic family who were very friendly so we gave them the changing table, diaper genie, diaper wipe warmer and all the baskets for the changing table. Of course, they had no intention of getting the very solidly-build changing table, so it was quite a project fitting it, and all three of their kids into the minivan. Just before driving off, CK handing the mother their money back, which was such a touching and thoughtful gesture and we felt good knowing Sofia and Olivia's crib and changing table were off to raise another little one in a few months.
About a month before she turned 3, I suggested to CK that we set up her big girl bed as a surprise for her big day, however, when we asked her if she was ready for a "big girl bed" she would say "no!" She wanted to stay in her crib and we really couldn't argue with her since it's so easy to pop her into her crib at night and know she won't roll out of bed or get up to get us in the middle of the night. We still used a baby monitor, she we knew when she was awake and would usually get a "Mommy, I want out" seconds after she was awake. Then, shortly after she was potty trained she answered "yes" when we'd ask about a "big girl bed." A few days after her crib was gone, but before her real bed was set up, Olivia said she missed her crib and wanted it back. It is kind of sad to think it's gone!
We ended up blowing up the toddler blow-up bed that we have used for Sofia when we have lots of company. Olivia was excited and slept great in it while I had every intention of buying a mattress and box spring the next day. The week was pretty busy and I didn't end up getting to the mattress store until Friday! Luckily, they were able to tie the bed onto the top of my car and we headed home where CK and I set up Olivia's bed! It really looked cute and Olivia was so excited! Of course, now that she's in a "big girl bed" and is fully potty trained, she didn't think she needed pull-ups at night. So, we told her if she woke up dry for five nights, she could sleep in her undies. The first few nights she woke me up in the middle of the night to go potty, but by Sunday night she was ready to go to bed without a pull-up! Our little girl is growing up so fast!
