El Farolito

We left Ghost Ranch and headed to a "hole in the wall" as Aunt and Uncle put it. We drove back toward Santa Fe but after 20 minutes turned off onto a road and drove for another 20 minutes. Just as we were leaving Ghost Ranch, it started raining in the distance and we were able to get some amazing photos of the bluffs with rain clouds. As we drove toward this little restaurant, El Farolito, we started driving into the rain and it rained hard!

We finally made it to a little tiny town which seemed to be mostly closed up and abandoned and there stood the smallest little restaurant ever. We went inside and I couldn't imagine the place filling up or how it even stayed in business. Olivia was so tired that she just couldn't sit still so she wandered around and I took her outside a few times (standing in the overhang out of the rain).

Two men came in who sat across from us and told us they were in the middle of a bike race which started in Canada and ended on the Southern New Mexico border. They averaged about 100 miles a day and looked like they needed a good meal and a brake.

Our food came and it was delicious! The girls both got quesadillas and Olivia devoured hers while Sofia just picked at hers (she still wasn't very hungry from being sick). I think it was one of the best quesadillas I've ever had! We enjoyed our meal and before we knew it, the place was full. I later asked and they have been open for 30 years and have been written up in a number of travel magazines etc. CK paid for dinner and also paid for the two biker's meals without telling them! I love it and would love to have seen their reaction once they found out! We loaded into the car and headed back to Santa Fe with it raining hard for nearly the entire drive. The perfect end to a very fun day!
