Our Little Pink Pirate!

We now have a soccer player in the family! We signed Sofia up for the Spring season with the Colleyville Soccer Association which runs from February 23rd through May 18th with practice on Wednesday afternoons from 5-6pm and games primarily on Saturday mornings for an hour. Sofia's team is called the Pink Pirates and consists of nine girls and two great coaches, Kevin and Jason. Most of the girls have played since they were four-years-old and two of the girls are outstanding! Sofia loves it! The girls' first two practices were rained out, so their first game on February 23rd was the first time they all played together. CK took Olivia and Buddy to Sofia's game while I was in California visiting my girlfriend Sian for the weekend and he said Sofia had a lot of fun and even had an assist on a goal!

Since then, she's wanted to practice almost every day after school and we ride our bikes (with Olivia in the bike trailer) to Wednesday's practice. Yesterday, the Pink Pirates had their second game and I was so excited to watch it and cheer them on! It was so much fun and the girls did a great job (they don't really keep score so we're not sure which team won). Sofia played for maybe 1/3 of the game and loved it! She tends to run along with the ball rather than attack it, but it's her first year and she's learning! The best part, from our perspective are the coaches! Coach Kevin walks along the gaggle of girls as they run up and down the soccer field and tells his team what to do. The apposing coaches stand on the sideline and yell "Move Back!" or "Run!" and other orders. I love that Coach Kevin talks quietly to the girls and gives them advice rather than yelling orders at him. It's great to see her have so much fun and we can't wait for her next game!
