The Insectarium

On Sunday morning the girls and I woke up and headed to Ruby Slipper for breakfast, which was delicious! CK was on a discussion panel that morning, so he couldn't join us unfortunately. After we finished a great breakfast, we headed to the Insectarium across the street which promised a butterfly garden.

The Insectarium was really interesting with all sorts of bugs and beetles and had a great ant display that included a view into their underground home. We stopped in at the cafe to listen and watch a cooking demonstration that included crickets (Sofia's new favorite to catch and have as a temporary pet) and some sort of larvae in rice. The crickets were stir fried and didn't look too bad, but neither of us tried either. Apparently in Africa up to 20% of protein intake is from eating bugs. We left the demonstration and went through the termite and cockroach display...not my favorite. Sofia was able to touch a few beetles and made crocodile faces next to a small crocodile. Then it was on to the butterfly exhibit! Sofia loved it and Olivia loved watching the koi swim around in the pond.

After a fun visit we left the Insectarium and found that it was pouring outside! Since we couldn't go back inside we waited for a while for it to slow down before we braved the rain. Needless to say, we were all soaked and took a bath and naps after we returned. After, we packed up, headed to the airport and flew home between the clouds. New Orleans is such a great city and I can't wait to visit again!
